Watch the video:

Ask students what they noticed and what they wonder.  Record responses.

Suggested question(s):

  • How far did the ball roll?

Estimate.  Make two more estimates – one that you know is too high, the other should be one that you know is too low.

Give students the following information to students as students ask for it.

 

Act 3

Students share their strategies and solutions.  Compare strategies as well as solutions.

How reasonable was your estimate?  What might you do differently when you are presented with a similar problem?

Share the following with students to validate their thinking:
